2015 New soil

The Garden gets a make over!

The soil was removed from the football field before the new playing surface was installed.

It was nice Cape Cod sandy loam and a perfect fit for the newly improved garden area.

The work took most of the summer, so there was no gardening during the 2015 season.

In October the weeds were mowed and the soil tilled.

Onions and Chard
The Broccoli had larger weeds, but they still came out easily.
 Broccoli and Potatoes
The best weed control is mulch.
This is composted leaf mulch.
It keeps the weeds out and the moisture in.
 Mulch around the onions
 The chard likes the mulch
Pumpkins with some of the weeds removed and some mulch around the plants.
The same pumpkin patch with all the weeds removed and all of the rows mulched.
Yes there are potatoes in there.
Now they just need some mulch and they will be very happy.
